Pharmacology Practice 2025

CPI 241

Feb 17, 2025 - Apr 16, 2025

PROJECT SCOPE Pharmacology contains a vast amount of information to learn coupled with new terms and concepts. It may be challenging to memorize lots of drug names and their mechanisms of action on the human body. However, the evidence-based contiguity principle-study method shows studying information as text together with diagrams or graphics improves retention. This project highlights a digital way to learn drug names concurrently with labels or pictures. By visualizing drugs individually helps in efficiently memorizing their names and actions. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR THIS PROJECT? The main goal for this project is to incorporate machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing educational experience students have when learning the pharmacologic classes of drugs. This will provide us with a digital platform that aligns drug names to corresponding labels or pictures and help learners memorize the top 200 drug names and their uses. It is important to remember them correctly. The study-aid app will be useful in pharmacy technician learning and education. Learners in this program will be expected to: ● Locate the appropriate resources for identifying drug information. ● Identify the top 200 drugs by brand, and generic name and by what it is used for. ● Aid learners in developing a digital approach to mastering different pharmacologic   classes of drugs. ● Prepare students for success in the national pharmacy technician certification exam (PTCE). What can our learners do for your company? Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis. Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to:  ● Creation of a study-aid app for educational content delivery. ● Utilize wiseCIO technology in the inventory management for the CVS mock pharmacy    and Workforce Innovation and Talent Center (WITC) on the Lane College Campus. ● Develop digital approach to memorize drug names and their indications. ● Success story of pharmacy technician students who use the app in exam preparation. ● A written report explaining the operation of the app and outcomes. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: ● Testing and validation of the app through evidence-based feedback. This may be through surveys, participant interviews, and exam success of students who used the app in the learning drug names and their indications. ● Conduct user testing of the app with the pharmacy technician students preparing for   national certification exam. ● Analyze the results of the survey and user testing. ● Provide an analysis of the results and recommendations for improvement. WHAT SKILLS OR TECHNOLOGIES WILL HELP LEARNERS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT? In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with: Data science that utilizes machine learning automata by retrieving groupings of content. Knowledge of data collection tools like Microsoft Excel Basic Knowledge of pharmacology and drug names. Technology Integration: Familiarity with software or platforms that facilitate data sharing. Verification of data accuracy Knowledge of online meeting tools like Microsoft Teams and Zoom Online Analytical processing via multidimensional (data) mining (OLAP) Universal interface & User-centered Experience on wiseCIO technology developed in-house by the Lane College computer science department. The wiseCIO (web-based intelligent service emerging with Cloud Information Outlet) technology visualizes existing websites for the ultimate user-centered experience. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.   HOW WILL YOU SUPPORT LEARNERS IN COMPLETING THE PROJECT? ● Our team will be available to connect with the students as needed and to provide guidance and support throughout the project. ● The pharmacy technician students will be offered an externship opportunity at local CVS pharmacy. The externship offers the opportunity to work closely with professional pharmacists while gaining valuable experience in pharmacy practice. ● Students will have access to faculty for mentorship and supervision whenever needed to help facilitate the project. ● We will be able to give students any of the educational information and content necessary to complete this project.
